Department of Commerce, Pune was established in the year 1984 with a broader vision of women empowerment. Department offers M.Com course with specialisation in Finance. As a Research Centre for Ph.D, research work on the thrust areas viz- Recent trends in Banking and Finance, Human Research Management, Marketing Management and Women Entrepreneurship are at the forefront. Research Project at M. Com course enables students to enhance their analytical and reasoning skills thereby laying a platform for their future research endeavor. Internship Programme is also an initiative for developing industry academia linkages and setting a plank between Campus and workplace. Department strives towards personality enhancement of students by moulding their skills and attitudes towards pursuing career in Industry, Banking and Finance and entrepreneurship. Innovative teaching methods comprising of group discussions, case studies, management games, field work are the highlighting features of the Department. Workshops and Students Symposium are organised on regular basis. Students are highly motivated to participate in curricular and extracurricular activities viz- Sports, Yuva Mahotsav, intercollegiate competition etc.

Department conducts its annual event ‘Financial Fest’ which is an academic feast with a tinge of Fun and flavour of Finance, comprising of students seminar, symposium, research paper presentations, Business quiz, poster presentations. Management games on team building, time management, product innovation, communication skills are the highlighting feature of Funancial Fest. As a part of Funancial Fest, Department organises Management Film Festival showcasing short films based on finance, work culture, communication skills, women empowerment, corporate social responsibility and Business Ethics, etc.

In the academic year 2024-25, Department of Commerce, Pune in collaboration with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Hazarimal Somani College, Chowpatty, Mumbai organised One Week Online Research Methodology Workshop for budding researchers and Research Scholars from 1st December, 2024 to 7th December, 2024. One Day National Conference on “ The AI Revolution- Opportunities & Challenges was successfully organised on 14th February, 2025 by the Department of Commerce, Pune in collaboration with Departments of Economics, JDBIMSR & BMK KRC, SNDTWU, Pune Campus and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Hazarimal Somani College, Chowpatty, Mumbai.
