Highlights

The Department of Educational Technology (DET) was established in 1973 as a department of Audio-Visual Education. In the year 1984, the nomenclature was changed to the Department of Educational Technology. Initially the DET provided services to its sister institutions under SNDT Women’s University. Later on DET conducted various types of training programmes and workshops for teachers / trainers, developed teaching aids, learning material, conducted research in education with special reference to Educational Technology, collaborated with the distance and Open learning movement in SNDTWU as well as at National level. MHRD, etc.

The department offered its first Post-Graduate Diploma in Educational Technology in the year 1995 and offered the first Masters degree programme in 2001. The department launched ‘MA Educational Technology’ from June 2013 under Innovative Scheme by UGC. The department is now offering programmes MA Learning and MSc  eLearning.

Department has qualified and expert faculty. It also invites visiting faculty from reputed organizations.

SNDT Women’s University

The SNDT Women’s University has initiated activities in the field of Open Education Resources (OER) since last 10+ years. Some University teachers are geared up with the idea of creating OER and many others can be motivated to contribute. eContent development, therefore, is envisioned as one of the major activities of the University.

Department of Educational Technology of SNDT Women’s University is a unique department which specializes in Instructional Design, eContent development and eLearning. The department has so far developed eContent of more than 400 hours for students of grade I level to postgraduate level.

Chroma studio set-up for video-production, video editing, audio-production, audio editing, instructional designers’ and multimedia developers’ lab were proposed for the eLearning centre to RUSA.

The grant of 135 Lakh was sanctioned was received on April 1, 2016.

 

Infrastructure and Facilities:

    • Complete sound-proofing cutting external sounds with perfect acoustics
    • Two professional video recording cameras
    • Ceiling, standing and back lights with adequate rods for lights
    • Professional microphones to catch audio
    • Two LED screens to display input background content and images and to display output after merging of human figure with the background and images
       
  2. Control room with video editing facility
    • Clear glass view for control room personnel
    • Live Producer for pre-production chroma cutting and background merging
    • Audio and video streaming and editing
    • Video streaming Mac server

ICT Training

I. Workshops on “Integrating ICTs in Higher Education” for faculty of the SNDT Women’s University and affiliated Colleges funded by Commonwealth of Learning, Canada:

The department organized a series of Faculty Training workshops on “Integrating ICTs in Higher Education”. Workshops were funded by Commonwealth of Learning, Canada.

Prof. Vasudha Kamat, Dr. Jayashree Shinde, Mr. Dilip Tikle, Dr. M U Paily, Dr. Sreekala Edannur, Ms. Sameena Falleiro, Prof. R.C. Sharma, Mr. Ashwin Baindur, Ms. Anita Chaware, Dr. Ganesh Magar were resource persons at these workshops.

Total 255 participants were trained in 2011-13.

II. Workshops under Project “Collaboration for network of Educational Technologists in India” funded by British Council, India:

Workshops conducted under MOU signed between the SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai and British Council Division, British Deputy High Commission on the Project “Knowledge Economy Partnerships 2014” for “Collaboration for network of Educational Technologists in India” under the Internationalizing Higher Education Programme (IHE).

Total 110 faculty from SNDT Women’s University and 60 faculty from other Universities from India were trained.

2014-15

1. A 3-day workshop on “OER Development’ was organized at the Dept of Educational Technology. (July 14-15, 2014). Dr Kyriaki Anagnostopoulou and Ms. Gwen Van Der Velden from Bath University, UK and Dr Jayashree Shinde, SNDTWU were the resource persons. Total 25 participants from University departments and affiliated colleges participated.

2015-16

Series of 3-days workshops on ‘ICT integration in Higher Education’ in other States were also conducted.

7. One 3-days workshop on “Research in eLearning” was organized for all University departments and affiliated colleges at Churchgate campus from Sept. 1-3, 2015. Prof Vasudha Kamat, Prof Sugata Mitra, New Castle University, Canada, Prof M M Pant, New Delhi, Dr. Jayashree Shinde and Ms. Sucheta Phadke were resource persons. Total 37 participants participated.

III. SNDT Women’s University Faculty Development Initiative:

2014-15 Two workshops of One-day each on “Use of Moodle Class in teaching-learning’ were organized. (Dec 22 and 24, 2014). Prof Vasudha Kamat and Dr Jayashree Shinde, SNDTWU were the resource persons. Total 75 participants from University departments and conducted colleges participated.
