In accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 and the IKS Mission of the Ministry of
Education, Government of India, SNDT Women’s University proudly inaugurated the
Bhartiya Gyan, Sanskrit Evam Yog Kendra (Centre for Indian Knowledge, Sanskrit & Yoga)
on September 19, 2022, at its esteemed Juhu campus. Under the dynamic leadership of
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Ujwala Chakradeo, this Centre embodies a deep-rooted
commitment to fostering Indian knowledge-based approaches and practices. The Centre’s
vision aligns seamlessly with the broader goals of the university, aiming to create an
ecosystem conducive to interdisciplinary research, with a special emphasis on promoting
Indian languages.
SNDT Women’s University, guided by the ethos of the National Education Policy 2020 and
the IKS Mission, took a significant step towards promoting indigenous knowledge systems
with the establishment of the Bhartiya Gyan, Sanskrit Evam Yog Kendra. The inauguration
ceremony, held on September 19, 2022, marked a milestone in the university’s journey
towards nurturing a vibrant ecosystem of teaching, training, and learning rooted in Indian
traditions.
The BHAGYASY was inaugurated by the renowned scholar Shri Mukul Kanitkar ji in the
gracious presence of Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Ujwala Chakradeo, Shri Atul
Kulkarni ji and distinguished guests, faculties and students on 19 th September 2022. During
the inauguration, Prof. Chakradeo emphasised the significance of the BHAGYASY Kendram
in revitalizing Indian knowledge systems and stressed its role in promoting interdisciplinary
research.
The inauguration of the Bhartiya Gyan, Sanskrit Evam Yog Kendra marks the beginning of a
transformative journey for SNDT Women’s University. The centre is poised to become a hub

Vision Of The Centre
- The Bhartiya Gyan, Sanskrit Evam Yog Kendra envisions its role in developing a knowledge hub through transforming educational and research practices by promoting holistic education. The Centre puts emphasis on interfacing and blending of ancient and modern Indian knowledge traditions, with specific focus on Sanskrit and Yog. The vision of the Centre revolves around encouraging, facilitating and cultivating an environment of learning rooted in the Indian cultural traditions, ethical principles and human values.

- Jagrani Prakalp : The Jagrani Research Project celebrates and raises awareness about Indian women sages and their intellectual contributions to India. This study uncovers the remarkable, untold stories of uncelebrated and marginalized women who have shaped and enriched India’s cultural and intellectual traditions. Starting with the Vedic Rishikas, the project documents their lives and philosophies. It aims to engage women students from SNDT colleges across India through research, training, documentation, and workshops. Introductory Lecture Series: 300 Lecture Proposed (2024-2025) This series delves into the remarkable stories and philosophical traditions of Indian women sages through narration, short film screenings, and discussions. Residential Training Program: 12 Training programs Proposed (2024-2025) The 30-hour residential training program (as a part of OJT) includes rigorous activities and engaging sessions on the intellectual heritage, leadership, and integral yoga practices of Indian women sages. The methodology incorporates storytelling, drama, interactive discussions, participatory presentations, group activities, and campus walks.
- Journey of Nagar Swaraj Through Nurturing Leadership – An Experiential Model in Urban Local Governance : This research explores the “Journey of Nagar Swaraj,” an experiential model focusing on nurturing leadership and promoting participatory urban local governance. Drawing from ancient Vedic traditions of communal decision-making and governance, the study aims to document and establish effective practices for fostering leadership within urban communities.

The Jagrani Physio Yoga Therapy Consulting Unit was inaugurated by Honorable Vice Chancellor in the presence of esteemed Physiotherapist and Yoga Teacher Dr. Jigna Tanna Panchmatia, Dr. Vilas Nandavadekar (Registrar), Dr. Jitendra Kumar Tiwari (Director of BHAGYASY), Dr. Medha Tapiawala (Dean) on March 19, 2024. The inauguration of the Physio-Yoga Unit marked a significant milestone in the integration of physiotherapy and yoga for holistic health therapies. The ceremony was hosted at SNDT WU, Churchgate, attended by esteemed guests, faculty, and students.
In her welcome speech, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor highlighted the importance of innovative health solutions in modern healthcare. Dr. Jigna spoke about the vision behind the Jagrani Physio Yoga Therapy Consulting Unit, emphasizing the unit’s focus on combining traditional yoga practices with modern physiotherapy techniques to enhance patient care and wellness.
Post-inauguration, Dr. Jigna conducted a demonstration session where she displayed how integrated therapies are administered. She illustrated several techniques combining yoga and physiotherapy, demonstrating their benefits on physical health and mental well-being.
Physio-Yoga for Holistic Health:
The Jagrani Physio Yoga Therapy Consulting Unit aims to be a pioneer in holistic therapy, bridging the gap between conventional medicine and alternative healing practices. The unit is expected to attract patients seeking comprehensive care that incorporates both physical and mental health elements, thereby promoting better overall health outcomes. The inauguration of the Jagrani Physio Yoga Therapy Consulting Unit represents a forward step in healthcare, blending ancient and modern methodologies for improved health benefits.

Regular session on every 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays at 03:00PM TO 05:00PM of every month to be conducted at Bharatiya Gyan, Sanskrit evam Yog Kendra (BHAGYASY) SNDT WU, Juhu Campus, Mumbai, are planned to educate healthcare professionals and the community about the benefits of integrated therapies. Additionally, the unit will collaborate with academic researchers to study the impacts of combined physiotherapy and yoga interventions on various health conditions.
